Slovenia: Transfer to New Residence Permit Required for Some Foreign Nationals
July 21, 2023

The Slovenian government began issuing a new type of residence permit with additional security features and now requires Swiss nationals and their family members, EU nationals’ family members, European Economic Area nationals’ family members, and Slovenian nationals’ family members to replace their old format cards with the new card by August 3, 2023. The cards of all other foreign nationals remain valid until their expiry date. Those who miss the deadline will not lose their residence rights but may face other complications with presenting proof of residence rights. To replace the card, the individual and main applicant must appear at the administrative unit in the territory in which they reside and must pay the administrative fee, which ranges from approximately EUR 15 to approximately EUR 20.
