On September 1, 2025, Somalia launched its Electronic Travel Authorization (eTAS), providing travelers with faster entry into the country compared to the previous visa-on-arrival system, which led to long queues and delays at immigration counters. Most foreign nationals entering for business, tourism, and short-term studies must now obtain an eTAS online before entering Somalia. Foreign nationals who were issued multiple-entry visas before September 1, 2025, visa-exempt nationals, or residence or work permit holders are exempt from the eTAS requirement. Those who require an eTAS and arrive in Somalia without one will not be able to obtain one upon arrival, and will be denied entry. The eTAS may be issued for either single or multiple entries, with validity depending on the visa type. The eTAS is part of a general trend worldwide of countries tracking travelers’ entry through electronic travel authorization systems, such as Kenya, South Africa, the the United Kingdom, and Israel.
