United States: DHS Terminates Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Yemen
February 26, 2026
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is not extending the Yemen TPS designation, but will provide a 60-day transition period, the agency has announced. TPS for Yemen will expire on March 3, 2026 and according to the agency announcement, DHS termination of the designation will take effect 60 days after publication of a notice in the Federal Register. A forthcoming Federal Register (FR) notice is expected to provide further detail.
According to Secretary Noem, the conditions for TPS designation are no longer met for Yemen. Yemen was initially designated for TPS in September 2015, and the designation was most recently extended in July 2024 for an 18-month period, from September 4, 2024 to March 3, 2026.
