United States: TPS Employment Authorization Extended Further for Syria and Somalia

The issue
U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) is once again briefly extending the validity of employment authorization documents (EADs) issued under the Temporary Protected Status (TPS) designations listed below as follows:
The previous extension of EAD validity for these countries was set to expire today.
USCIS continues to briefly extend TPS EADs for the above countries following the June 25 U.S. Supreme Court ruling that the Trump Administration could proceed with its plan to terminate the TPS designations for Haiti and Syria. The Supreme Court decision is affecting the outcome of all ongoing TPS litigation, including for Somalia in African Communities Together et al. v. Noem et al., No. 26-cv-11201 (D. Mass.).
USCIS is also compelled, for the time being, to comply with a July 21 district court order related to TPS EAD auto-extensions for certain beneficiaries who filed EAD renewal applications before October 30, 2025.
Which EADs are affected by the extension?
- Syria TPS EADs that benefit from today’s automatic extension through July 27, 2026 are those with an original expiration date of Sept. 30, 2025, March 31, 2024, Sept. 30, 2022, or March 31, 2021
- Somalia TPS EADs that benefit from today’s automatic extension through July 29, 2026 are those with an original expiration date of March 17, 2026, September 17, 2024, or March 17, 2023
