The issue
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has terminated the Temporary Protected Status (TPS) designation for Somalia, effective August 14, 2026, according to a USCIS announcement released today. The previous designation extension had been granted through August 14.
The termination action follows the June 25 U.S. Supreme Court ruling permitting the Trump Administration to proceed with termination of TPS for Haiti and Syria. The Supreme Court decision is affecting the outcome of all ongoing TPS matters, including for Somalia.
Immediate termination of TPS work authorization
Somalia TPS employment authorization documents (EAD) are no longer valid. Employers must reverify Somalia TPS beneficiaries who presented these EADS and may not continue employing an individual who does not provide proof of valid employment authorization.
