United States: USCIS Auto-Extends Employment Authorization for Certain El Salvador TPS Beneficiaries to July 22

Beneficiaries of El Salvador Temporary Protected Status (TPS) with Employment Authorization Documents (EADs) that facially expired on March 9, 2025 have had their EADs automatically extended to July 22, 2026, according to the USCIS website. The auto-extension took effect automatically on March 9, 2026 – the end date of the previously granted auto-extension – and takes effect only for beneficiaries who continue to remain eligible for TPS. The TPS designation for El Salvador is scheduled to expire on September 9, 2026.

The USCIS website notes that for Form I-9 employment authorization verification purposes, impacted El Salvador TPS beneficiaries may present their employer with their EAD that facially expired on March 9, 2025. Foreign nationals also may wish to print and present the USCIS website chart reflecting the new auto-extension.

TPS beneficiaries with EADs expiring on dates other than March 9, 2025 may be eligible for an individual auto-extension based on the timely filing of an employment authorization application, under a separate set of EAD extension rules.
