Work permit applicants in the Ukraine, including eligible applicants in some technology sectors and certain graduates from top schools, will see several amendments to the application process, according to a regulation that is effective immediately. Key changes include a new application form, faster processing time and extended deadlines for renewals, among other changes.
Amendments to Work Permit Process
Key benefits of the new process include:
- A new application form;
- Reduced processing time for work permit applications from 15 calendar days to seven business days;
- Extended deadline for work permit renewals from 30 calendar days to 20 calendar days prior to expiration;
- Extended deadline for applicants to submit an executed employment agreement to the employment authority from three business days from the date of execution to seven business days;
- Applicants can be notified of decisions by registered mail and email, instead of the previous regular mail-only option; and
- The employment authority must return application documents to applicants whose applications are denied or rejected.
In addition, employers must pay the work permit state fee within ten business days from the applicant’s receipt of the decision, instead of the previous 30 calendar days from the date of the authority’s decision.
Amendments to Technology-Sector Employees' and Graduates’ Work Permit Application Process
The 15-day waiting period between the date of the announcement of the vacancy and the date of the submission of the work permit application has been eliminated for certain information technology sector work permit applicants and graduates from top-100 higher educational institutions, according to a pre-approved list of ratings.
What This Means for Employers and Foreign Nationals
Foreign nationals, including eligible technology sector employees and those with a degree from a top school, should benefit from faster processing times, a simpler application process and extended renewal and document submission deadlines.
Employers should note the shorter deadline to pay the work permit state fee.
