Sarah is a Partner in Fragomen’s Minneapolis office, where she focuses on employment-based immigration, helping employees and employers in the sports, medical, high technology, engineering and higher education industries. She is a relationship-builder whose extensive experience, knowledge of immigration law and immersion in her clients’ industries have helped transition foreign-born doctors, researchers, engineers, information technology specialists and managers to some of the top universities, medical centers and research facilities in the United States. She helps companies retain the most competitive candidates from around the world and places highly trained physicians in both rural and urban underserved areas around the country.

Sarah works with clients on a variety of immigration matters, including H-1B visas, J-1 Waivers (Conrad, HHS, Regional Commission, Hardship and Persecution), PERM, Extraordinary Ability Petitions, National Interest Waivers/Physician National Interest Waivers, consular processing, and I-9 audits, training and compliance. She recently testified before the U.S. Senate Committee on the Judiciary, Subcommittee on Immigration, Citizenship and Border Safety on potential policy changes to better permit U.S.-trained physicians to fill in critical shortages in the U.S. healthcare workforce.

Sarah has joint degrees in law and public policy and has spent time in Brussels’ Vesalius College studying International Affairs. She is especially adept at providing clients with an understanding of the intersection of immigration, politics and policy, and providing thoughtful, strategic advice regarding the impact of immigration laws and regulations on their business. Sarah is committed to using her extensive policy experience to educate and empower her clients through the immigration process while meeting their needs and objectives in an effective and efficient manner.

Sarah is a frequent speaker and author on a variety of business immigration topics. Additionally, she serves as an adjunct professor teaching an advanced immigration law course at the University of Minnesota Law School. She has received numerous accolades throughout her career, including regularly being listed in The Best Lawyers in America and several American Immigration Lawyer Association’s Presidential Commendations.

Experience

Successfully assisted a major network of hospitals with designing and implementing a fellowship program that allowed them to obtain H-1B status for nurses, an occupation for which H-1B status is normally not available.

Helped a major Minnesota employer revise its PERM labor certification process to more efficiently and effectively complete the green card process for highly valued foreign national employees.
