The situation
Effective January 1, 2018, the minimum salary for locally hired foreign workers has increased to RSD 143 net per hour, up 10 percent from last year.
A closer look
- Minimum salary per month. The minimum monthly salary requirement in Serbia fluctuates per month, depending on the number of working hours, as follows:
- Months with 160 working hours: RSD 22,880
- Months with 164 working hours: RSD 24,024
- Months with 176 working hours: RSD 25,168
- Months with 184 working hours: RSD 26,312
- Initial and renewal applications. Employers of foreign nationals seeking to obtain or renew a work permit on or after January 1, 2018 must increase the foreign national’s minimum salary to comply with the new rule.
- Pending applications. Employers of foreign nationals with pending work permit applications as of January 1, 2018 must increase the foreign national’s minimum salary to comply with the new rule.
- Immigration applications that do not meet the minimum salary will be rejected.
Reminders on other requirements
- Benefits and allowances. As before, benefits and allowances may not be included in the salary calculation.
