About Czech Republic
Whether you’re looking to visit, live or work in the Czech Republic—we can support your immigration needs at every stage of your journey.
The Czech Republic is a member of the European Union and the Schengen Area. If you’re a foreign national looking to visit, live and/or work in the Czech Republic, several options are available.
- Business Visits: As a business visitor and depending on your citizenship, you'll generally enter the Czech Republic without a visa, or need to secure a Schengen C visa from a Czech consular post before your travel. The Schengen Area limits stays to 90 days within any 180-day period, counted cumulatively across the Schengen Area.
- Work Authorization: The main work authorization category is the EU Blue Card, which is available to highly skilled workers hired locally. It can be issued for up to three years and is renewable. The Employee Card is a combined work and residence permit, also suitable for highly skilled local hires. It can be issued for up to two years and is renewable. The EU Intra-Company Transferee (ICT) Permit is intended for the transfer of highly skilled managers, specialists, or trainees within a company. It can be granted for up to three years for managers and specialists, or up to one year for trainees.
- Internships/Traineeships: If you intend to attend training for up to six months in the Czech Republic, the Short-Term Training route is an option. You will generally not need a work permit but even if you're visa-exempt to the Czech Republic for business or tourist stays, you'll need to secure a Training Visa (visa code 38) before you travel.
- Self-employment: If you're an investor or start-up company owner, you may be eligible for the investor visa. To be eligible, you'll need to meet minimum investment requirements and provide a business plan that demonstrates job creation in the Czech Republic. There is also an option if you're a freelancer. Freelancers can apply for a Trade License (which takes approximately 30 days to process) and then apply for a Trade License Visa. You'll need to show proof of accommodation, health insurance and sufficient funds to cover your stay during the first year.
Fragomen can also consult on citizenship matters and, as permitted within the confines of local law, may be able to offer citizenship assistance.
