About Ecuador
Whether you’re looking to visit, live or work in Ecuador—we can support your immigration needs at every stage of your journey.
If you’re a foreign national looking to visit, live, and/or work in Ecuador, several options are available.
- Business Visits: As a business visitor and depending on your citizenship, you'll generally need an Acts of Commerce Visa. This visa allows you to conduct business activities in Ecuador for more than 90 days or to perform technical activities. It allows a stay of 180 days over 12 months, calculated from the visa issuance date.
- Work Authorization: If you intend to work in Ecuador, you must secure a work visa. The temporary work visa, mainly the Work Contract Visa, is used by foreign nationals who will be employed and paid in Ecuador. The visa permits work for up to two years and may be renewed every two years.
- Internships/Traineeships: There is no trainee-specific work authorization category in Ecuador.
- Self-employment or self-sponsored: There are work authorization programs dedicated to potential investors or entrepreneurs in Ecuador. If you intend on investing a minimum amount equivalent to 100 base salaries (approximately USD 45,000) in real estate, companies, or certain security deposits, the investor visa (Visa de Excepción para Inversionistas) may be suitable. Ecuador also offers a two-year temporary residence visa for digital nomads, which allows foreign nationals who own a company or work for or provide services to a company or person outside Ecuador to reside in and work remotely from Ecuador without local sponsorship.
Fragomen can also consult on citizenship matters and, as permitted within the confines of local law, may be able to offer citizenship assistance.
