If you’re a foreign national looking to visit, live and/or work in Federal Iraq, several options are available. Iraqi Kurdistan has its own immigration laws that differ from the laws of Federal Iraq.
- Business Visits: As a business visitor and depending on your citizenship, you'll generally receive a visa-on-arrival when you enter Federal Iraq, or you may need to secure a Visit Visa from a Federal Iraqi consular post before your travel. Visit visas allow a single entry within 90 days of the visa issuance and permit a stay of up to 30 days, while visas-on-arrival allow a single entry into Federal Iraq for up to 60 days.
- Work Authorization: If you intend to perform hands-on work or sign a contract with an employer in Federal Iraq, you will most likely require an employment visa. You'll also need to secure a multi-entry visa to hold a legal residence and register with the Ministry of Labor to secure a work permit. The validity of this visa is typically one year, depending on the duration of the employment contract and the Letter of Invitation's conditions.
- Internships/Traineeships: There is no trainee-specific work authorization category in Federal Iraq.
- Self-employment: There are no work authorization programs dedicated to potential investors or entrepreneurs in Federal Iraq.
