About New Zealand
Whether you’re looking to visit, live or work in New Zealand—we can support your immigration needs at every stage of your journey.
If you're a foreign national looking to visit, live, and/or work in New Zealand, several options are available.
- Business Visits: As a business visitor, depending on your citizenship, you can apply for a business visa or a New Zealand Electronic Travel Authority (NZeTA) before traveling. A Business Visa is generally valid for 90 days within any calendar year, while an NZeTA may be valid for up to two years.
- Work Authorization: The main work authorization categories are (1) the Accredited Employer Work Visa for foreign nationals hired by a New Zealand-based employer); and (2) the Specific Purpose or Event Work Visa for highly skilled workers of a specific project. Visas can be issued for one to three years on each application, depending on the circumstances of the occupation.
- Internships/Traineeships: If you're traveling to New Zealand to undertake practical work experience through training/internship programs such as formal religious training, practical dental or medical training, or complete an apprenticeship as a jockey, the student and trainee work visa may be an option. It is generally granted for up to six months and allows a maximum stay of 36 or 48 months for religious training or jockey apprenticeship, respectively. Extensions are available. To qualify, you'll need to meet health and character requirements, show evidence of funds or sponsorship, and have practical work experience.
- Self-employment: If you're an investor or entrepreneur, you may be eligible for the Active Investor Plus Visa for an indefinite period. Eligibility requirements include an investment of NZD 15,000,000 and an International English Language Testing System (IELTS) score of at least 5.0.
- Remote Work: If you hold a Visitor visa or a New Zealand Electronic Travel Authority (NZeTA) and applied for your visa on or after January 27, 2025, you are allowed to work remotely for an employer outside New Zealand without violating the rules of your visitor visa status. If you are a partner or guardian on a long-term visitor visa, you may also be authorized to work remotely for an employer outside New Zealand. While working remotely, you cannot work for a New Zealand employer, provide goods or services to people or businesses in New Zealand, or conduct work that requires your physical presence at a workplace in New Zealand.
