Thinking about living and working remotely in Thailand? In this video, Fragomen Practice Leader Kate Praphakornphiphat walks you through Thailand’s Digital Nomad Visa—officially known as the Destination Thailand Visa (DTV)—and how you can apply for it. She covers the requirements, benefits and key steps to securing your visa.

Covered in this video:
✔️ What is the Thailand Digital Nomad Visa (DTV)? – Who qualifies & what it allows
✔️ Eligibility & Requirements – Financial proof, employment conditions & documents needed
✔️ Application Process – Where & how to apply for the DTV visa
✔️ Sponsoring Family Members – Bringing your spouse & children
✔️ DTV vs. LTR Visa – Which option is best for you?
✔️ Key Tips for a Smooth Application

📌 Important Note: The DTV visa is designed for remote workers employed by overseas companies. If you plan to work for a Thai employer or meet with Thai clients, different work authorization may be required.

Need help navigating your Digital Nomad Visa options? Fragomen is here to guide you through the process and ensure a smooth application.

What You Need to Know to Apply for the DTV Visa

Thailand has become a top destination for remote workers, offering stunning landscapes, affordable living, and a rich cultural experience. Here, Kate Praphakornphiphat  Practice Leader at Fragomen in Thailand, walks you through Thailand’s Digital Nomad Visa

The Destination Thailand Visa (DTV) is designed for digital nomads, allowing them to live and work remotely from Thailand. This guide will walk you through the eligibility requirements, application process, and key benefits of the DTV visa.

What Is the Thailand Digital Nomad Visa (DTV)?

The Destination Thailand Visa (DTV) allows remote workers employed by overseas companies and freelancers to live and work in Thailand for up to 180 days, with an option to renew. The visa is valid for five years, and applicants can sponsor dependents, including a legal spouse and children under 20, allowing them to stay in Thailand for up to five years as well.

Why Choose Thailand as a Digital Nomad?

Thailand offers a high quality of life, a low cost of living, and diverse work-friendly locations.

Whether you prefer working from a modern co-working space in Bangkok, a beachfront café in Phuket, or a peaceful retreat in Chiang Mai, Thailand caters to different lifestyles. The country also boasts delicious cuisine, vibrant nightlife, and excellent infrastructure for remote work.

Who Is Eligible for the Thailand Digital Nomad Visa: Requirements & Eligibility

To qualify for the DTV visa, applicants must meet the following requirements:

      • Be at least 20 years old
      • Provide financial evidence of at least 500,000 Thai baht
      • Show proof of residence in Thailand, such as a long-term lease agreement
      • Provide an employment contract and supporting documents from an overseas company
      • Submit proof of salary for the last six months or a professional portfolio if freelancing

Important: The DTV visa is only for those working remotely for foreign companies. If you plan to work for a Thai company or meet with Thai clients, this visa is not suitable, and you will need a separate work authorization.

How to Apply for the Thailand Digital Nomad Visa (DTV)

The DTV visa application process is straightforward but requires preparation. Follow these steps:

      • Gather Required Documents: Ensure you have proof of residence, employment contracts, financial evidence, and salary records.
      • Submit Your Application: Apply through the Thai Embassy or Consulate where you have permanent residency.
      • Include Dependent Documents: If sponsoring a spouse or children, provide legal documentation such as a marriage certificate or birth certificate.
      • Await Processing: Ensure all documents are accurate and up-to-date to avoid delays.

Alternative Visa Option: Long-Term Resident (LTR) Visa

For remote workers employed by well-established companies, Thailand also offers the Long-Term Resident (LTR) visa, which allows applicants to stay in the country for up to 10 years. However, this visa has more extensive eligibility requirements, making it a more complex option compared to the DTV visa.
