The situation
Foreign nationals residing in Tanzania under a residence permit, dependent pass or exemption certificate must update their residential information on or before November 30, 2018.
A closer look
Foreign nationals residing in Tanzania must complete a proof of address form and send it to their Fragomen immigration provider. Fragomen’s provider will then submit the required documents to a local Immigration Department office. Those who fail to submit their updated details before the deadline may face legal measures.
Background
The Immigration Department (a subdivision of the Tanzanian Home Affairs department) is required to maintain residential information for all foreign nationals residing in Tanzania. Upon entry into the country, foreign nationals must indicate their permanent residential address. The Department is requesting that all foreign nationals update their residential information so that the Ministry of Home Affairs, the main agency responsible for immigration matters, can maintain an accurate database.
Looking ahead
The Immigration Department has announced that it will conduct audits at work sites and/or residential locations to ensure compliance with this requirement, and legal measures will be taken against those who have failed to abide by the notice. The government has not specified what the legal measures may be.
