Argentina: Provisional Certificate Policy Change Extends In-Country Work Authorization Timelines

The Argentinian National Immigration Directorate has announced a procedural change affecting in-country work authorization applications, including Transitory Work Permits and Temporary Residence Visas. Under the new policy, provisional residence certificates (“precarias”) – which authorize foreign nationals to begin working in Argentina – are no longer generated automatically at the time a filing appointment is scheduled through the directorate’s RADEX online system. Previously, certificates were issued at the time the appointment was booked, allowing applicants to start work while awaiting their in-person filing. Now, certificates will only be issued after the applicant attends the immigration office appointment and submits the complete application. As a result, foreign nationals may face delayed work start dates, and companies should anticipate longer onboarding timelines – approximately seven to 10 additional calendar days for regular applications and one to two calendar days for fast-track cases – and adjust workforce planning accordingly.
