Lithuania: Jobseeker Permit, Job Search Timeframe Introduced
September 27, 2022
Further to recent legislative changes expanding work authorization for student permit holders, Lithuania introduced a one-year jobseeker permit for graduates from Lithuanian higher education or formal vocational training, which also allows successful applicants to sponsor dependent family members. Additionally, for the last year of studies or training, permits are granted for the study or training duration plus six months (up from three), to enable permit holders to seek employment without requiring any administrative steps. Lithuanian authorities additionally expanded the scope of student permits to include applicants on formal vocational training programs; and now permit foreign nationals to apply for internship permits in industries other than their field of study. These measures should make it easier for young talent to gain access to the Lithuanian labour market.
