Mexico: Electronic Visitor Visa Reinstated for Brazilian Nationals Traveling by Air

Effective February 5, 2026, the government of Mexico reinstated the electronic Visitor Visa (e-Visa) for Brazilian nationals entering Mexico by air for tourism or business purposes. This change reverses the 2022 measure that required Brazilian nationals to obtain a consular-issued Visitor Visa prior to travel. Eligible travelers may now apply for an e-Visa online through the government’s dedicated electronic visa website. Applications typically require a copy of a valid passport, a travel itinerary, and proof of departure from Mexico, among other documents. Approved e-Visas are generally issued the same day, and airlines are expected to verify authorization via a QR code at check-in.
Brazilian nationals traveling to Mexico by land or sea, or those whose e-Visa application is refused, must continue to obtain a consular-issued Visitor Visa prior to travel, which can take between one and 20 days to process, depending on the consular post. Brazilian nationals who already hold a valid consular-issued Visitor Visa issued prior to February 5, 2026 may continue to use that visa to travel to Mexico by air until its expiration date and are not required to transition to the electronic Visitor Visa system. Both the e-Visa and the consular Visitor Visa typically allow a maximum stay of up to 180 days per entry. Certain Brazilian nationals may remain visa-exempt if they hold an eligible visa or immigration status from another country, including permanent residence or a valid visa for Canada, Japan, the United Kingdom, the United States, or a Schengen Area country, among other exceptions.
The reinstated e-Visa streamlines air travel for Brazilian nationals and supports broader Mexico–Brazil efforts to modernize entry procedures. Both governments have committed to developing a reciprocal electronic visa framework, with the longer-term goal of progressing toward visa waiver arrangements.
