Fragomen in London recently spent an eventful morning at Poetry in Wood, a charitable person centred creative environment for people with learning disabilities. The organization promotes independence and empowerment through training adults in design and providing employment. It also aims to help people to contribute and participate in the wider community.

Our team comprising of Lucy Butler, Audrey Cemah, Ayan Mohamud, Janis Bailey, Katie Good, Marjan Shirak, and Thomas Marsom spent their time working with people with learning disabilities, assisting with craft session with students while learning new skills from these students and helping them reaffirm their confidence in their skills.

Some of the techniques that the group showed our team included creating wooden items from wall pictures to key rings and sell these to the general public, and draw pictures onto wood and then use a burning technique to outline these before painting them.

To further support the organization, our colleagues will also work with Poetry in Wood to arrange an art piece that they can proudly display in their office.

See our colleagues in action at Poetry in Wood.
