About Azerbaijan
Whether you’re looking to visit, live or work in Azerbaijan—we can support your immigration needs at every stage of your journey.
If you're a foreign national looking to visit, live, and/or work in Azerbaijan, several options are available.
- Business Visits: As a business visitor, you'll need to secure a Business Visitor Visa before you travel. Business visas usually allow for single or multiple entries, with various periods of authorized stay, depending on your nationality and the authorities' discretion.
- Work Authorization: The Work and Temporary Residence Permit is the main work category in Azerbaijan. It is suitable for work activities beyond the scope of business visits and/or work permit exemptions and can be granted for three months, six months, or one year. You can generally benefit from a work permit exemption for up to 90 days if you work in specific industries (including information and communication, finance and insurance, and power, gas, steam, and artificial atmosphere supply industries) or if you're a (deputy) director. If you are working permit-exempt, you'll still generally need an entry visa and a registration with the State Migration Service.
- Internships: There is no trainee-specific work authorization category in Azerbaijan.
- Self-employment: If you're an investor or start-up company owner, you can generally conduct your entrepreneurial activities without work authorization, provided that you meet the annual turnover criteria. The validity of your visa determines the allowable period of stay. Additionally, there are permanent residence permits available to some investors and entrepreneurs.
Fragomen can also consult on citizenship matters and, as permitted within the confines of local law, may be able to offer citizenship assistance.
