About Chile
Whether you’re looking to visit, live or work in Chile—we can support your immigration needs at every stage of your journey.
If you’re a foreign national looking to visit, live, and/or work in Chile, many options are available.
- Business Visits: As a business visitor and depending on your citizenship, you'll generally need to secure a business entry authorization before you travel to Chile. Business activities in Chile are generally limited to attending internal or client meetings and receiving training.
- Work Authorization: If you intend to conduct activities beyond allowable business visitor activities, you'll need a Short Term Work Authorization. The Temporary Residence Visa is the long-term work authorization category in Chile. It has 16 subcategories, including workers (both self-employed or employed by a company) performing remunerated work in Chile; executives or directors traveling regularly to Chile to perform investment and business activities; seasonal workers; foreign nationals with direct family ties in Chile, and those seeking to enter Chile for medical treatment or religious purposes, among others. It is generally granted for two years and may be renewed in two-year increments at the discretion of immigration authorities.
Chile currently has associate member status in MERCOSUR, a South American trade bloc, and offers specific programs for nationals of MERCOSUR member countries. Nationals of Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Paraguay, and Uruguay are eligible for temporary residence based on the Mercosur agreement. - Internships/Traineeships: There is no trainee-specific work authorization category in Chile.
- Self-employment: Chile offers several programs for foreign nationals who create new companies, invest in Chile, or bring established companies to Chile, including the Start-UpChile and InvestChile programs.
Fragomen can also consult on citizenship matters and, as permitted within the confines of local law, may be able to offer citizenship assistance.
Fragomen in Chile is Servicios Migratorios Chile Ltda.
