If you're a foreign national looking to visit, live, and/or work in the Dominican Republic, several options are available.
- Business Visits: As a business visitor, depending on your citizenship, you'll generally need to secure a business visa from a Dominican consular post before your travel. Business Visas are either simple, issued for 60 days for a single entry, or multiple, issued for one year for multiple entries. The authorized period of stay is typically up to 60 consecutive days per visit. You may apply for an extension of stay, usually granted for a maximum of 30 additional days.
- Work Authorization: To work in the Dominican Republic, you may apply for a Business Visa for Employment Purposes if your assignment is up to one year (issued by consular post with authorization from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs) or a Temporary Residence Permit if your assignment exceeds one year.
- Internships/Traineeships: There is no trainee-specific work authorization category. Foreign nationals may generally receive short-term training in the Dominican Republic in Business Visa status; foreign nationals undertaking an internship should generally apply for a student visa.
- Self-employment: There are work authorization programs dedicated to potential investors or entrepreneurs. The residence visa for investors is valid for 60 days, after which you'll need to apply for a one-year residence permit in the Dominican Republic.
