About Ireland

Whether you’re looking to visit, live or work in Ireland—we can support your immigration needs at every stage of your journey.

Ireland is a member of the European Union, but not the Schengen Area. If you’re a foreign national looking to visit, live, and/or work in Ireland, several options are available.

  • Business Visits: As a business visitor and depending on your citizenship, you'll generally enter Ireland without a visa or you'll need to secure a short-term visa from an Irish consular post before your travel. While business visits are legally allowed for up to 90 days, currently any trip over 14 days is subject to detailed scrutiny. Your intended length of stay should correspond with your return flight itinerary and planned activities. As Ireland is not part of the Schengen Area, stays in Ireland do not count towards the 90 days of allowable stay in a 180-day time frame permitted under Schengen rules.
  • Work Authorization: The most common work authorization types are (1) the Atypical Working Scheme (AWS) for short-term work assignments up to 90 calendar days where there is a business need; (2) the Critical Skills Employment Permit (CSEP) for skilled workers hired under a local contract that lasts at least two years; and (3) the Intracompany Transfer (ICT) Permit for transfers of senior managers, key personnel or trainees for up to five years (or one year for trainees).
  • Internships/Traineeships: If you're traveling to Ireland as an intracompany trainee, you can obtain a one-year Intracompany Transfer (ICT) Permit. To qualify, you'll need to have graduated from a higher education institution within 12 months of the application date and have been continuously employed by your home company for one month. Trainees can also apply for the Atypical Working Scheme (AWS) permit under streamlined conditions.

Fragomen can also consult on citizenship matters and, as permitted within the confines of local law, may be able to offer citizenship assistance.

Fragomen in Ireland is Fragomen Ireland Limited operating exclusively as an immigration consultancy and not as a law firm in Ireland. Fragomen Ireland Limited, a private company limited by shares, with company number 601374 and whose registered office is at Ground Floor, Central Quay, Riverside IV, Sir John Rogerson's Quay, Dublin 2, D02 RR77, Ireland.
