If you're a foreign national looking to visit, live, and/or work in Jamaica, several options are available.
- Short-Term Business Visits: As a business visitor, depending on your citizenship, you'll generally enter Jamaica without a visa or need to secure an entry visa from a Jamaican consular post before your travel or at the port of entry if eligible. Regardless of nationality, business visits are limited to an authorized stay of 30 consecutive days per entry and a cumulative maximum stay of six months per calendar year.
- Work Authorization: If your activities don't qualify for a short-term business visit, nor you're exempt under the Foreign Nationals and Commonwealth Citizens Employment Exemptions Regulations (in which case you'll apply for a Work Permit Exemption with the Ministry of Labour), the main work authorization category is the Work Permit. The validity of the Work Permit ranges from three months to three years; the Ministry of Labour and Social Security ultimately determines the validity period granted. Once your Work Permit (or Work Permit Exemption) is approved, you may travel to Jamaica for a passport endorsement. You must also secure a work permit identity card from the Ministry of Labour and Social Security. If you are a CARICOM national and fall within specified categories, you may be eligible for a CARICOM Skills Certificate, allowing you to live and work in Jamaica.
- Internships/Traineeships: There are no training or internship-based programs in Jamaica.
- Self-employment: If you're an investor, entrepreneur, or start-up company owner, you have visa options. Contact your immigration professional for more information.
