About Mauritius
Whether you’re looking to visit, live or work in Mauritius—we can support your immigration needs at every stage of your journey.
If you're a foreign national looking to visit, live, and/or work in Mauritius, several options are available.
- Business Visits: As a business visitor, depending on your citizenship, you'll need to either secure a business visa from a Mauritian consular post or travel visa-free to Mauritius. Business visas are issued by Mauritian consular posts or by the Passport and Immigration Office of Mauritius. They generally allow a total stay of up to 120 days per calendar year, provided each business visit does not exceed 90 days. If you need to stay longer, you can leave the country and re-apply for a business visa with the Passport and Immigration Office.
- Work Authorization: There are two types of work authorization in Mauritius: (1) The Short Term Work Permit - issued by the Ministry of Labour, Industrial Relations, Employment and Training and suitable for skilled foreign national employees who do not qualify for the Occupation Permit; and (2) the Occupation Permit as a Professional - issued by the Economic Development Board and the Passport and Immigration Office, is suitable for employees whose minimum monthly base salary remains MUR 22,500 per month.
- Internships/Traineeships: If you're traveling to Mauritius for training or an industrial placement for up to six months, you'll need to apply for a Residence Permit. To qualify, you need to hold a degree, show proof of your internship acceptance, and not be paid in Mauritius (however, you may receive a stipend from the Mauritian institution).
- Self-employment: Mauritius has a self-employment program requires a USD 35,000 investment, MUR 800,000 turnover, and two letters of intent when applying. It is a 10-year permit.
Fragomen can also consult on citizenship matters and, as permitted within the confines of local law, may be able to offer citizenship assistance.
