In an interview with Arbeit und Arbeitsrecht, Partner Marius Tollenaere answers questions about the recently introduced opportunity card in the third stage of the German Skilled Immigration Act (FEG).
In the interview, Marius shares how this innovation in immigration law can address the shortage of workers in Germany and his thoughts on its chances of success.
Marius also shares what employers should know about the new opportunity card:
- The opportunity card is not a full work permit, but it serves as a job search title in the meantime.
- The opportunity card grants access for 20 hours to any activity at all qualification levels – proof of remaining hours must be documented precisely.
- Job applicants who have an opportunity card do not have to leave the country again to switch to a work title.
- The opportunity card allows applicants probationary work for up to two weeks.
- Job applicants must go to the local immigration office and apply for a work title.
