Partner Christian Dallman and Associate Megan Blanford recently volunteered at an Afghan Asylum Clinic hosted by the New Americans Legal Clinic in Holland, Michigan. More than 1,800 Afghan refugees that were evacuated by the U.S. government following the 2021 military withdrawal from Afghanistan now reside in Michigan.
At the clinic, Christian and Megan interviewed clients in order to help them complete their asylum applications. They have also worked more broadly on related issues, including representing Afghan translators for the armed forces in their Special Immigrant Visa process, volunteering on military bases hosting Afghan families, and more.
The Michigan Immigrant Rights Center has been recruiting attorneys and other volunteers to provide pro bono assistance to Afghan refugees in Michigan with completing asylum applications. To learn more or for information on volunteering, click here.
