Christian is the Managing Partner of Fragomen’s Detroit, Michigan office. In addition to overseeing the operations of the firm’s presence in the Motor City, he chairs our firm’s Automotive Industry Practice Group, which is comprised of attorneys and immigration professionals throughout the world with automotive clients. Christian is central to developing Fragomen’s top-down strategic approach to the automotive industry.

Christian and his team possess a deep familiarity with the challenges facing the automobile sector and a deft touch for devising creative responses to them. Together, they structure comprehensive immigration programs, track and gather industry intelligence and work closely with consulates and other authorities to achieve results for their clients. His work includes:

  • Partnering with automakers as they respond to the advent of electric and autonomous vehicle technology. These new technologies demand a creative and flexible use of foreign talent and knowledge by the auto industry; Christian spearheaded innovative responses, including the use of national interest waivers to facilitate successful green card applications.
  • From a U.S. immigration perspective, helping automotive industry clients devise effective compliance plans to respond to and be prepared for unionization efforts and labor actions, including the 2023 strike against the big three automakers. In addition to representing his own automaker and supplier clients, Christian coordinates the efforts of Fragomen attorneys and teams who represent the sector across jurisdictions, helping them gather, share and develop immigration data related to labor actions.
  • Co-founding the Fragomen Global Automotive Industry Practice Group, Christian helped build and lead this worldwide team, which facilitates conversations between automotive sector clients worldwide. Together, they develop new data-sharing initiatives, benchmarking efforts and program elements to solve the disparate immigration challenges of automotive manufacturers and suppliers.

Christian also represents a wide range of clients from outside the automotive industry, including companies in the banking, insurance, technology, education and industrial manufacturing sectors. He assists clients with developing efficient, cost-effective and compliant immigration programs. He represents individual clients in the sports sector generally and—true to form for Detroit—hockey players in particular; he handles in-the-weeds challenges for his sports clients, including immigration questions related to family immigration, previous interactions with law enforcement and new collegiate endorsement (NIL) rules.

Clients value Christian for his diligence, responsiveness and personal care. He strives to put the entire service offering of Fragomen at their disposal and to coordinate with leaders across the firm to provide tailored, effective solutions.

Christian maintains an active pro bono practice and coordinates the Detroit offices’ local community service efforts. Under his leadership, the office has been involved in events, initiatives and service opportunities with local organizations such as Michigan Relocation Council, Capuchin Soup Kitchen, and Woori Center.

He is a frequent speaker and writer on emerging immigration topics that impact the management of corporate immigration programs.
