Executive Summary
The Turkish Consulate in New York has confirmed that it will dispense work visas to U.S. citizens if the visa application was filed prior to the visa suspension that went into effect on October 9.
The following is an update to the travel and work permit restrictions for U.S. citizens:
- Obtaining a visa in the United States. The Turkish Consulate in New York has confirmed that it will dispense work visas to U.S. citizens if the visa application was filed prior to the visa suspension that went into effect on October 9. Other Turkish consulates in the United States are indicating they currently will not issue visas to U.S. citizens or refuse to clarify.
The below points remain unchanged at this time:
- Obtaining a visa outside the United States. Turkish consulates in other countries may be willing to issue visas. This varies per consulate. Some consulates require that the U.S. citizen also be a citizen or long-term permanent resident of the country where that consulate is located.
- Visa holders. U.S. citizens holding valid sticker visas, e-visas or border visas issued prior to October 9, 2017 can enter Turkey, whether or not they arrive on a flight directly from the United States.
- Sticker visas. U.S. citizens may be allowed to purchase a sticker visa upon entry at a Turkish airport, provided that the flight to Turkey did not originate in the United States.
