Alana is a Director in Fragomen’s Advisory and Compliance Practice and is based in Fragomen’s Sydney office. She is a Solicitor (NSW) with more than 15 years of experience in Immigration Law.

Alana partners with corporate clients to assist with reviewing internal policies and processes to implement best practices and ensure compliance with obligations under Australian immigration laws. She also provides strategic immigration advice as part of broader workforce planning, talent attraction, mobilization and retention and in situations where immigration law may intersect with other areas of law, such as employment law, mergers and acquisitions or business restructures.

Working with corporate clients that operate across a variety of sectors, including aged care, information technology, engineering, financial services, hospitality and professional services, Alana has worked with a number of the world's largest multinational corporations, major Australian corporations, small- and medium-sized enterprises and start-up companies. She has also assisted individual clients with a broad range of temporary and permanent visa applications, with a particular focus on labour agreements.

Experience

Partnered with a multinational information technology company to transfer approximately 30 U.S. and Canadian employees to assist with a high-profile store opening in the Sydney Central Business District (“CBD”). The visa procurement process was complex and the working timeframe extremely tight, but Alana was able to achieve the desired result for the business within one to two weeks.

Partnered with a multinational IT and software development outsourcing company to update and improve their Australian employer sponsored permanent residence program. This included customized permanent residence assessment checklists for employees, development of precedent company files (with diarized reminders to request updated information at 12-month intervals), and preparation of FAQ documents to reduce the number of common questions from employees.

Worked with Fragomen’s internal teams to assist with procurement of an entertainment visa for a high-profile celebrity and her support staff. Very little time was provided to prepare a sponsorship application for the business, and two Australian entertainment visas, which would normally take three to four months to finalize. High-level, priority service was provided which led to approval of all applications in less than one month.
