About Bolivia
Whether you’re looking to visit, live or work in Bolivia—we can support your immigration needs at every stage of your journey.
If you’re a foreign national looking to visit, live, and/or work in Bolivia, several options are available.
- Business Visits: While a Multiple Visas or a Specific Purpose Visa is technically required to conduct business activities in Bolivia, in practice, visa-exempt nationals may be permitted to conduct certain, non-technical activities for up to 30 days with a Tourist stamp granted at the port of entry. Nonetheless, even if you're visa-exempt, you should generally apply for a visa at a Bolivian consular post, or on arrival, especially if your travel is not urgent.
- Work Authorization: If you'll be paid to work in Bolivia, you'll need work authorization - even if you don't have an employment relationship with a company in Bolivia. The Specific Purpose Visa for Transitory Work is the main work authorization and can be requested for 30, 60, 90, or 120 days depending on your intended activities and length of stay in Bolivia and where you obtain the visa (consular, on arrival, or in country). You may be able to extend it in Bolivia for up to a total of 180 days. The Temporary Resident Visa is suitable if you intend a longer work period and are employed by a local Bolivian company. While this visa may allow work for up to three years, it is generally granted for only one year.
- Internships: There is no trainee-specific work authorization category in Bolivia.
- Self-employment: If you're an investor or entrepreneur you may be eligible to apply for a Multiple-Entry Visa valid for up to two years at a Bolivian consular post. You'll need to submit documentation accrediting your investment in Bolivia, generally through a company incorporated in Bolivia or property ownership.
Fragomen can also consult on citizenship matters and, as permitted within the confines of local law, may be able to offer citizenship assistance.
