If you’re a foreign national looking to visit, live and/or work in Papua New Guinea, several options are available.
- Business Visits: As a business visitor and depending on your citizenship, you'll generally require a business visa, valid for up to 60 days per entry. If you are eligible for a visa-on-arrival; you will be issued a single entry visa when you arrive in Papua New Guinea (PNG) at the following designated international ports of entry: Jackson’s International Airport, Daru Airport, Wutung Airport (Vanimo), and Kagamuga Airport (Mt. Hagen). If you enter the country from other ports, you must obtain a valid Entry Permit before you travel.
- Work Authorization: The main work authorization category is the Restricted Employment Visa (REV), valid for 30 days; it cannot be extended. However, you can apply for up to 4 REVs each year, regardless of who is sponsoring the visa. Another option is the Long-Term Work Permit, which is valid for three years and may be renewed indefinitely.
- Internships/Traineeships: There is a training-based work authorization category in Papua New Guinea. The Occupational Trainee Visa is suitable if you intend to undertake workplace-based training to upgrade or develop your skills. The validity of the visa and eligibility requirements are based on the applicant's individual circumstances.
- Self-employment: There are no specific work authorization programs for potential investors and entrepreneurs. However, there are other options to become a permanent resident of Papua New Guinea.
