Due to typical delays associated with the announcement of work authorization quota levels for the year and the upcoming elections in Romania, foreign nationals and employers should expect a delayed work permit quota announcement and therefore, delayed work authorization approvals for applications still pending in the beginning of 2017.
If the quota for 2017 is not published while a work authorization application is pending, the work authorization deadline will be automatically extended by 15 business days.
If the quota levels for 2017 are still not published after the 15-day automatic extension, local authorities may send a work authorization rejection.
What This Means for Employers and Foreign Nationals
Since it is highly likely that 2017 quota figures will be delayed due to the upcoming elections, employers and foreign nationals with work permit applications still pending or that are still being prepared as of January 2017 should contact their immigration professional to determine the extent of the delays.
