Brazil Early Career Visas: Student, Trainee and Professional Training Options

Brazil offers several visa options for students, trainees and early career professionals who want to study, train or gain professional experience in the country.

This article explains Brazil’s early career visa categories, including the Student Visa, Trainee Visa and Professional Internship and Exchange Visa, as part of Fragomen’s broader series on Brazilian visa options.

Understanding how these visas work can help applicants choose the correct pathway for academic exchange, professional training or early career development in Brazil.

What Are Brazil Early Career Visas?

Brazil offers several visa options specifically designed for early career professionals, students and trainees.

These visa categories support individuals who want to gain international experience, participate in academic exchange programs or receive structured professional training in Brazil.

Each option is tied to a specific purpose and set of eligibility criteria.

Trainee Visa in Brazil

The Brazil Trainee Visa is intended for professional training without an employment relationship in Brazil.

This visa is typically used by foreign employees of multinational companies who travel to Brazil to receive training at a Brazilian branch, subsidiary or headquarters.

Because this category does not establish local employment, it is limited to training activities only.

Professional Internship and Exchange Visa in Brazil

The Professional Internship and Exchange Visa applies to unpaid internships in Brazil.

This visa category is generally used by students who are enrolled in foreign educational institutions and who have secured an internship agreement with a Brazilian host organization.

The internship must be properly documented through a formal agreement.

Work Authorization Based on Graduation or Post-Graduation in Brazil

Another early career pathway is the Work Authorization based on graduation or post-graduation in Brazil.

This category is designed for exchange students who are participating in academic programs in Brazil.

To qualify, the applicant must be accepted into a recognized academic exchange program.

Student Visa for Brazil

The Brazil Student Visa covers multiple academic purposes.

It may be used for practical training or academic exchange and applies to activities that are directly connected to studying and learning in Brazil.

Key Benefits of Brazil Early Career Visas

Brazil’s early career visas are suitable for individuals who want to:

      • Gain international professional experience
      • Participate in academic exchange programs
      • Receive corporate or academic training in Brazil

Key benefits include:

      • Professional development through hands-on experience
      • Cultural exchange through immersion in Brazilian language and culture
      • Temporary residence in Brazil for up to one year, with renewals possible depending on the program

Eligibility Requirements for Brazil Early Career Visas

Eligibility depends on the specific visa category.

Trainee Visa

Applicants must:

      • Be a foreign employee of a company with a Brazilian branch, subsidiary or headquarters
      • Have no employment relationship in Brazil

Professional Internship and Exchange Visa

Applicants must:

      • Be enrolled in a foreign educational institution
      • Have an internship agreement with a Brazilian host organization

Work Authorization Based on Graduation or Post-Graduation

Applicants must:

      • Be accepted into a recognized academic exchange program

Student Visa

Permitted activities under the Student Visa must be related to studying and learning in Brazil.

General Documentation Requirements

Across all early career visa categories, applicants must:

      • Hold a valid passport
      • Provide proof of enrollment or employment, such as internship agreements or training plans
      • Present proof of health insurance coverage
      • Demonstrate sufficient financial means

Application Process for Brazil Early Career Visas

The application process begins by identifying the appropriate visa category.

Depending on the visa type, applications are submitted to either:

      • The Ministry of Justice in Brazil, or
      • A Brazilian consulate abroad

Once the application is approved, the visa is issued for the duration of the applicant’s studies or training in Brazil.

Why Proper Assessment Matters

Because Brazil offers multiple early career visa options, choosing the correct category is essential. A proper assessment helps ensure that applications are accurate and complete, reducing the risk of delays or refusals.

We can help

If you are considering studying, training or participating in an academic exchange in Brazil, our team can help you assess which early career visa category may be appropriate based on your plans.

You are welcome to contact our team to discuss your situation and better understand the requirements and process before applying.
