Canada: Family Reunification Permanent Residence Pathway for Individuals in Sudan Announced
February 29, 2024
UPDATE February 29, 2024: The dedicated family reunification permanent residence pathway for eligible individuals in Sudan has officially opened. The measure will remain in effect for one year or until IRCC receives 3,250 applications, whichever comes first. Interested applicants can contact their immigration professional for eligibility assessments and case-specific advice.
Due to ongoing violence in Sudan, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has announced a new family-based humanitarian permanent residence pathway for Sudanese nationals, and non-Sudanese nationals who resided in Sudan on or before April 15, 2023, to reunite with their family in Canada. To be eligible, applicants must be a child (of any age), grandchild, parent, grandparent or sibling of a Canadian citizen or permanent resident living in Canada. The Canadian or permanent resident relative must sponsor the application. Detailed information on this program, including the launch date, will be available on the IRCC website soon. The measure adds to a series of immigration benefits implemented by the Canadian government in April 2023 in support of Sudanese nationals.
