As the daughter of Guatemalan immigrants, Andrea is passionate about advancing immigrants’ rights. She currently serves as the Fragomen Fellow at the City Bar Justice Center, a pro bono affiliate of the New York City Bar Association. In this role, Andrea provides legal assistance to New York’s immigrant community by representing clients in removal proceedings and complex affirmative applications, organizing and leading pro bono clinics, participating in community outreach activities and mentoring pro bono attorneys. She also provides critical support for special projects initiated by the City Bar Justice Center.
Prior to joining Fragomen, Andrea was an Immigrant Justice Corps Justice Fellow at Make the Road New York, where she provided legal representation to immigrants in removal proceedings and in affirmatively applying for lawful status while collaborating with community organizers.
Andrea also spent two years as a paralegal at the New York Civil Liberties Union. In law school, she worked in the Kathryn O. Greenberg Immigration Justice Clinic and interned at the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund (MALDEF) and the Asylum Seeker Advocacy Project (ASAP). She was also the Editor-in-Chief of the Cardozo Journal of Equal Rights and Social Justice.
