NEW YORK – July 25, 2023 – Fragomen, the world’s leading provider of immigration services, welcomes Andrea Barrientos to its fellowship program.
The Fragomen Fellowship is a fully-funded, two-year rotating program established to enhance pro bono legal services provided to immigrants by the City Bar Justice Center, the largest division of the New York City Bar Association’s charitable affiliate, the City Bar Fund.
In her new role, Barrientos will focus on increasing access to and quality of counsel for immigrants in New York. She will also provide direct representation and critical and programmatic support for clinics and special projects initiated by the City Bar Justice Center.
“The Fragomen Fellow is responsible for a variety of important efforts, including the training and mentoring of pro bono lawyers and community education and outreach. Andrea comes to us with a wealth of this necessary experience and the skillset to make a difference in the lives of immigrants in need of high-quality, person-centered representation,” said Lisa Koenig, Partner, Global Responsible Business Practices at Fragomen.
Most recently, Barrientos served as an Immigrant Justice Corps Justice Fellow at Make the Road New York, where she provided legal representation to immigrants in removal proceedings and to those affirmatively applying for lawful status and collaborated with community organizers. She also worked in the Kathryn O. Greenberg Immigration Justice Clinic and interned at the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund and the Asylum Seeker Advocacy Project.
“As the daughter of Guatemalan immigrants, I am thrilled to bring my passion for advancing immigrants’ rights to Fragomen, supporting the firm and the City Bar Justice Center in their dedication to and pursuit of helping immigrants in need while giving back to the communities where we live and work,” said Barrientos.
The Fragomen Fellowship has evolved over the course of more than 15 years to closely bind the firm and the City Bar Justice Center in their shared commitment to client-centered services that focus on bringing equitable immigration relief to the forefront.
