The situation
Japan’s government offices, including the Immigration Bureau, and some Japanese consular posts will be closed April 27 to May 6, 2019 to celebrate Golden Week, causing work visa processing delays. The Japanese government has declared this 10-day holiday this year to celebrate the emperor’s succession.
Impact
- All in-country government processes will be suspended during this time.
- Applicants filing visa applications at a Japanese consular post should check in advance if the consular post is open during this period.
- Employers should file any time-sensitive applications and notifications before the closures. Foreign nationals should expect processing delays for immigration applications filed before and after this period.
