Em 25 de junho de 2018, um decreto foi autorizado pelo Presidente do Brasil, Michel Temer, para aprovar o Acordo de Totalização da Segurança Social EUA-Brasil. O acordo entraráem vigor a partir de 1 de outubro de 2018.
Sem um acordo de totalização em vigor, os profissionais enviados em trabalhos temporários entre os EUA e o Brasil podem duplicar as contribuições (ou seja, pagar as contribuições para a previdência social em seu país de origem e de acolhimento). Isso pode aumentar significativamente os custos para profissionais e empresas que realizam trabalhos no exterior.
Com o novo acordo entrando em vigor a partir de outubro, os empregados e seus empregadores estarão sujeitos àlegislação de previdência social de apenas um país. Indivíduos enviados em trabalho temporário entre o Brasil e os EUA podem permanecer dentro do programa de previdência social de seu país de origem, desde que as condições do acordo sejam cumpridas, o que também pode reduzir os custos.
Consoante as disposições especiais do acordo, os trabalhadores que jáestão presentes nos EUA ou no Brasil antes de outubro deste ano também podem se tornar elegíveis para cobertura sob o Acordo.
O que éum Acordo de Totalização da Previdência Social?
Acordos de totalização são acordos internacionais na área de seguridade social. Asseguram que os períodos de seguro social cumpridos no âmbito do regime de previdência social de um país sejam considerados para determinar o direito a benefícios da previdência social (como pensões) no outro país.
Frequentemente, esses acordos permitem que os trabalhadores internacionais, temporariamente designados para o outro país, permaneçam responsáveis por contribuições de previdência social para seu país de origem por um período limitado de tempo (ou seja, para evitar a dupla tributação).
