Ireland: Call to Register Interest for Making Submissions on Occupation Lists
March 2, 2023
At a Glance
- Ireland’s Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment (DETE) has opened registration for submitting suggestions for revisions to the Critical Skills Occupations List and Ineligible List of Occupations, requesting that industry stakeholders and representatives provide evidence to support claims for certain occupations to be included in the updated lists.
- The Critical Skills Occupation List identifies professions that are in short supply in Ireland and for which international recruitment is necessary, whereas the Ineligible List of Occupations are occupations under which non-European Economic Area/Swiss/UK workers may not apply for an employment permit.
- Stakeholders and representatives are advised to contact their immigration professional for advice and assistance as registration of interest is now open.
The situation
As a part of Ireland’s Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment’s (DETE) periodic review of Ireland’s shortage occupation lists, authorities have requested industry stakeholders and representatives to make revision suggestions for the Critical Skills Occupations List and Ineligible List of Occupations lists. Stakeholders can register their interest now to be included in the forthcoming call for submissions.
Background
- Critical Skills Occupations List. This list outlines occupations with in-demand skills for which it is considered necessary to encourage the recruitment of non-European Economic Area/Swiss/UK nationals. Such foreign workers can apply for a Critical Skills Employment Permit.
- Ineligible List of Occupations for Employment Permits. The Ineligible List of Occupations identifies employment categories that are ineligible for employment permit applications in Ireland.
Impact
Stakeholders and representatives may email the submission form to the Economic Migration Policy Unit (EMPU) of the DETE. Fragomen can assist with the submission process.
Looking ahead
It is expected that the EMPU will officially open the submission window in the near future and early engagement with the process is recommended. We will report on further developments as they are released.
