Benefits of the MYXpats Centre
MYXpats Centre will process Employment Passes, Professional Visit Pass, Dependant Pass and Long-Term Social Visit Pass applications in five business days upon complete filing. Employers will be able to field their work authorization-related questions to the Centre instead of inquiring at the headquarters of the Immigration Department of Malaysia.
Background
The Centre, which is overseen by the Ministry of Home Affairs, is the result of the division of the work authorization application process into two administrative units; the existing Expatriate Service Division (ESD) will only focus on company account registration, while the MYXpats Centre will process and issue Employment Pass applications. Previously, all processing was conducted at the Immigration Department, and processing times were inconsistent and prolonged. The Centre is a joint initiative between Talent Corporation Malaysia Berhad (TalentCorp) and the Immigration Department of Malaysia.
Company Registration Process
Employers must still undergo the same registration and compliance check process under the ESD, which was launched last year by the Immigration Department of Malaysia, before utilizing the MYXpats Centre. Once they are registered under ESD, employers can use the MYXpats Centre to apply for Employment Passes and other work authorizations without a separate registration process.
Some division of processing will remain based on industry. For example, information technology companies will still be handled under Multimedia Development Corporation Sdn Bhd (MDeC). A company director will still need to appear at a scheduled appointment at the ESD as the last step of the registration process to provide identification and sign the Letter of Understanding.
Unchanged Documentary and Process Requirements
Until further notice, process and documentary requirements (which are outlined in the ESD guidebook) remain unchanged. However, the requirements may change with little or no prior notice.
What This Means for Employers and Foreign Nationals
Employers should benefit from the consistent five-day processing time for Employment Passes and other forms of work authorization.
Since documentary requirements for Employment Passes and other Passes can change with little or no prior notice, foreign nationals should check the ESD website for documentation requirements.
