Azerbaijan
Business visitors in certain industries can work in Azerbaijan for up to 90 days cumulatively per year without a work permit, according to a decree by the Cabinet of the Minister of Azerbaijan.
The industries included in this exemption include:
- Mining;
- Manufacturing;
- Power, gas, steam and artificial atmosphere supply;
- Information and communication
- Finance and insurance;
- Education;
- Transportation; and
- Water supply and sewage treatment.
Individuals who enter Azerbaijan based on the new work permit exemption but who determine that they need to work more than 90 days cumulatively within a calendar year must submit their work permit application within 30 days upon arrival. If they fail to do so, they will have to exit and either obtain their work permit from abroad or within 30 days of arrival.
Though workers in these industries will not require a work permit in Azerbaijan, most will still require an entry visa for travel. Nationals of the following countries are exempt from entry visa requirements for short-term visits to Azerbaijan: Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Mongolia, Russia, Tajikistan, Ukraine and Uzbekistan.
What This Means for Employers and Foreign Nationals
Companies in the one of the above industries will benefit from greater flexibility when sending employees to Azerbaijan for short-term projects.
