Amy uses her extensive immigration law and public policy experience to advise on how best to utilize government policies to attract and retain the best global talent, especially those in the science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) fields.
Having started her career as an immigration lawyer advising employers across industries, Amy realized that she wanted to truly make a difference by being involved in policy writing instead of policy execution. As the Executive Director for Immigration Policy at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, she was responsible for advocating for immigration reform before Congress and was involved in architecting parts of the Border Security, Economic Opportunity, and Immigration Modernization Act, a major bipartisan comprehensive immigration bill which passed the U.S. Senate. She also served in the Office of the General Counsel at the Department of Homeland Security where she contributed to notice and comment rulemaking on such topics as STEM Optional Practical Training.
Amy is passionate about making an impact and shaping legislation through partnerships with governments and the private sector. Additionally, she has a strong track record of creating coalitions between higher education entities and various industries—groups with the same agenda and goals related to immigration—to ensure participation in rulemaking bringing forth evidence-based reasons to help change policy. She believes that immigration is not only vital to U.S. economic interests but also to U.S. national security interests and key to innovation and competitive advantage.
