With deep sadness, we share the untimely passing of our partner and friend, Rebecca (“Becca”) van Uitert.
Becca rejoined Fragomen last July to help launch our Salt Lake City office where she led our team serving clients throughout the Rocky Mountain region. She had previously worked for eleven years as a Senior Associate in our Chicago and New York offices and exemplified the very best of Fragomen’s values. Becca also previously served as the Dean of Career Services at the J. Reuben Clark Law School at Brigham Young University where she worked tirelessly to guide students towards leadership and meaningful employment, and before rejoining Fragomen, she was Vice President of Human Resources at AgReserves, an agriculture and land development corporation.
Becca was a talented lawyer who was dedicated to her work, her team and her clients. She was passionate about providing pro bono services, selflessly giving back to the local community and fighting for those on the margins. For several years, she served as the Pro Bono Coordinator for Fragomen’s Chicago office, and among many important projects, she led the firm’s efforts to provide pro bono attorney representation to asylum-seeking women and children detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement in Dilley, TX. Becca was also a dedicated wife and a mom to four exceptional children.
Those who had the good fortune to know and work closely with her will remember her incredible kindness and tremendous leadership. Everything Becca did was done with purpose, grace and warmth. She is deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
