If you’re a foreign national looking to visit, live, and/or work in Uganda, several options are available.
- Business Visits: As a business visitor and depending on your citizenship, you will need to secure a business visa before you travel. Two types of business visas are available: a single-entry business visa and a multiple-entry business visa. You may be able to secure your visa via the Ugandan government platform (eVisa).
- Work Authorization: The main category of work authorization used in Uganda is the Long-Term Class G2 Permit, which grants long-term work authorization from six months to three years. The Short-Term Special Pass allows work for short-term assignments of under six months and extensions are not available for this permit type. Depending on your citizenship, your employer may need to pay a security bond to secure your work permit.
- Internships/Traineeships: There is no trainee-specific work authorization category in Uganda.
- Self-employment: There are no work authorization programs dedicated to potential investors, entrepreneurs, start-ups, or freelancers in Uganda.
