About Mongolia

Whether your company is sending employees to Mongolia or expanding your worldwide footprint—Fragomen is here to help. Our experienced immigration professionals partner with businesses of all sizes to develop immigration strategies that can help you achieve your goals.

  • The immigration system in Mongolia is unpredictable; requirements, processing times, employment regulations, and available work permit options are not transparent.
  • Most foreign nationals must secure a visa suitable for the purpose of their visit to Mongolia. Some foreign nationals are visa-exempt, depending on their nationality and intended length of stay. Under current practice, visa-required nationals attending internal business meetings for a short time may enter Mongolia using a K1 (Business Visitor) Visa. K1 Visas generally permit the holder to stay up to 90 days per visit. Visa-exempt nationals may be granted varying periods of stay, depending on their nationality.
  • Foreign nationals require a Work Permit and Residence Permit to work and stay in Mongolia. The Office for Immigration, Naturalization and Foreign Citizens (OINFC) issues the C-type Visa, which allows for multiple exits and re-entries into Mongolia. To qualify, foreign nationals must intend to stay for more than 90 days in Mongolia and have a long-term employment contract or agreement with a Mongolian entity.
  • Foreign nationals whose intended stay exceeds 30 days must register at the Residential District Office within seven (7) days of arrival.

Fragomen can also consult on citizenship matters and, as permitted within the confines of local law, may be able to offer citizenship assistance.
