- The immigration system in Mongolia is unpredictable; requirements, processing times, employment regulations, and available work permit options are not transparent.
- Most foreign nationals must secure a visa suitable for the purpose of their visit to Mongolia. Some foreign nationals are visa-exempt, depending on their nationality and intended length of stay. Under current practice, visa-required nationals attending internal business meetings for a short time may enter Mongolia using a K1 (Business Visitor) Visa. K1 Visas generally permit the holder to stay up to 90 days per visit. Visa-exempt nationals may be granted varying periods of stay, depending on their nationality.
- Foreign nationals require a Work Permit and Residence Permit to work and stay in Mongolia. The Office for Immigration, Naturalization and Foreign Citizens (OINFC) issues the C-type Visa, which allows for multiple exits and re-entries into Mongolia. To qualify, foreign nationals must intend to stay for more than 90 days in Mongolia and have a long-term employment contract or agreement with a Mongolian entity.
- Foreign nationals whose intended stay exceeds 30 days must register at the Residential District Office within seven (7) days of arrival.
