- Jamaica's immigration laws provide several options for employers of foreign nationals.
- Foreign nationals require an entry visa to conduct business activities in Jamaica unless exempt, for instance, based on nationality. Regardless of nationality, business visits are limited to an authorized stay of 30 consecutive days per entry and a cumulative maximum stay of six months per calendar year.
- Foreign nationals who do not qualify for a short-term business visit (or any other exemption under the Foreign Nationals and Commonwealth Citizens Employment Exemptions Regulations) require a Work Permit to conduct work activities in Jamaica. Work permit validity ranges from a minimum of three months to a maximum of three years; the Ministry of Labour and Social Security ultimately determines the validity period granted. Once their work permit is approved, foreign nationals may travel to Jamaica for passport endorsement. Foreign nationals must also secure a work permit identity card from the Ministry of Labour and Social Security.
- Qualified workers from CARICOM may be exempt from work permit requirements if they hold a CARICOM Skills Certificate.
