About Angola
Whether your company is sending employees to Angola or expanding your worldwide footprint—Fragomen is here to help. Our experienced immigration professionals partner with businesses of all sizes to develop immigration strategies that can help you achieve your goals.
- Angola's immigration system provides several options for employers of foreign nationals. Because there is no defined list of acceptable business visitor activities in Angolan law, regulation, or policy, visa-issuing officers across Angolan consular posts and border immigration officers have significant discretion when determining whether a foreign national meets the requirements for business travel to Angola. Foreign nationals typically enter with one of three types of visas: Diplomatic/Official/courtesy visa; Tourist visa; or Territorial visa.
- The Tourist Visa: granted for up to 120 days, but is generally granted for 30 days. The Tourism Visa allows for multiple entries and can be extended twice for up to 30 days per extension. This visa is only to be used for business, recreation, cultural, or sportive practice reasons and also for participation in scientific and technology activities.
- Nationals eligible for the Tourist Visa Exemption Program is granted for 30 days. The Tourism Visa allows eligible nationals to enter up to three times per calendar year for a total cumulative stay of up to 90 days per calendar year. This visa is used to perform business as well as tourism activities. Other entry requirements and final decisions to enter Angola are at the discretion of border officials. Therefore, employers and travelers are advised to contact their immigration professional to discuss entry for business under this program on a case-by-case basis.
- The primary category of work authorization is the work visa/work permit. It can be granted for up to the validity of the employment contract and is generally granted in 12-month increments. There are six types of work authorization, depending on occupation:
- Employees of a government entity or state-owned company
- Independent service providers or individuals involved in sports or the arts
- Employees in the oil, mining, and construction industries (Classification C)
- Employees in the trade, fisheries, shipping and aviation industries
- Employees covered by cooperation agreements
- All remaining occupations not covered by the above. A local employer in Angola must enter into an employment contract with a foreign worker
Fragomen can also consult on citizenship matters and, as permitted within the confines of local law, may be able to offer citizenship assistance.
