- Benin's immigration system and laws provide limited options for employers of foreign nationals.
- Beninese law does not define a list of acceptable business visitor activities; most activities can be performed as a business visitor, provided that there is no local employment contract in place. All nationalities except those from ECOWAS countries require an entry visa.
- The Business Visa can be granted for 30 or 90 days, with multiple entries if requested. Benin offers online application options for business visas, which can be accessed on the e-Visa portal: https://evisa.bj/.
- While local employment contracts are generally not permitted under a Business Visa, exceptions may be made for short-term assignments of up to three months if the foreign national has received a letter of invitation from a Beninese company. Assignments longer than three months require work authorization.
- The primary category of work authorization is the Long-Term Work Permit, which is granted for an initial period of one year.
