- Eswatini's immigration system provides limited options for employers of foreign nationals. Eswatini is a member of the Southern African Development Community (SADC). Requirements, processing times, employment eligibility, and benefits for accompanying family members vary by permit type.
- Depending on their nationality, foreign nationals may enter Eswatini with a Visitor's Pass for business purposes for a stay of up to 30 days per visit. Business visitors are not permitted to engage in productive employment or receive remuneration from a local source without appropriate work authorization. Visa-exempt nationals may enter for short stays of up to 30 days. Extensions are available at the discretion of the Department of Immigration.
- The Class A Entry Permit (Work Permit) is the primary authorization for foreign nationals sponsored by an employer for roles deemed beneficial to Eswatini. The Special Entry Permit/Investor Permit is designed for investors, self-employed individuals, and persons with exceptional skills who contribute to the national interest, typically supporting longer-term stays outside standard employment arrangements. The Temporary Employment Certificate applies to short-term or project-based assignments where a full work permit may not be required.
- Eswatini applies a strict localization requirement. Employers must complete a labour market test, including advertising the role locally and demonstrating that no suitably qualified Eswatini national is available. Failure to meet this requirement is a common ground for work authorization refusals.
